Astrology is an ancient system of symbolic language used to see the Self through the framework of cosmic ordered patterns (signs and planets). We can apply these patterns, symbols and archetypes to our own lives so that we may observe them as images or components that exist within or outside ourselves in the collective unconscious; and eventually in the collective conscious.
These ordered patterns of wholeness include the four elements: fire, earth, air and water; the orientations of intuition, sensation, mental and emotional functions; yin and yang; the objective, polarities and mirrors; the subjective, unknown and unconscious; the Shadow and the Light, the primal, inter-relational, and impersonal aspects of self and others; the soul’s journey from fate to destiny.
Using psychological astrology, self-awareness comes through dissecting unconscious reactive habit patterns (auto pilot) and our responses and reactions to our early childhood conditioning that formed our ego-identified personality. These conditioned factors set up our beliefs about ourselves and our innate worth, feelings about life and the world being safe or frightening, and ultimately whether we feel free and creative or victimized and at the effect of life and our circumstances.
It is not until we identify, dismantle and challenge our unconscious (Moon) ego drives can we attempt to uncover and see our essence (Sun) and our divine potentials and destiny. This is the search for the Holy Grail, the journey to the top of the mountain to know thy Self, the Hero’s Journey from the dark unknown to liberation, finding our inner gold.
Integration comes as these separate and distinct parts merge: the essential Self and the now Self-Conscious personality re-integrated through the constant evolution of awakening. The path is filled with the hard work of constant self-inquiry, willingness to confront our own self as the enemy or an ally, opening wounds long forgotten for healing and regeneration, compassion for self and others, and the commitment to walk the uncomfortable road to standing in authenticity and Being.
