Over the last two years transiting Saturn has been travelling through the sign of Scorpio, and by year’s end will be ushered into the sign of Sagittarius. Saturn transits take about 2 & 1/2 years to traverse a sign and demand that we face a new reality: respond to unrelenting pressure to mature and take time to restructure our life and build a new foundation of strength and mastery.
Saturn is the archetypal representative of the Personality Box, the ego-identified container of who we think we are in the world, and ultimately our recognition of authority (internal & external). Saturn’s grail requires absolute commitment, focus, effort, self-discipline and the willingness to overcome life-long fears and self imposed inadequacies, and reveals our strength and skill over time in taking on challenges. We literally are shown that we reap what we sow.
Happening since 2012, Saturn’s journey through Scorpio (water/feeling) has been fraught with facing (or denying) gut-wrenching reactions related to compulsions/addictions, issues of dependency, helplessness, control, relationships power-trips and debts, barriers to emotional intimacy with self and others, energetic or sexual merging intertwined with emotional communion (or lack of it), death and the ensuing grief in response to the tearing away of what is no longer useful, valued, or functional. This time can be felt as a desperate descent into an internal depth/abyss, a sense of depression or inward spiral to ride out the burning destruction; or the release of the phoenix from the ashes, authentically courageous, strong, and in command.
When transiting Saturn enters Sagittarius in late December 2014 the Authority’s theme of inspection, hard work and sacrifice to rebuild/redefine will apply to the realm of ‘Sag’ (fire/meaning) along with the Sage, Philosopher, and Visionary archetypes. There is a shift from the depths, a rising up and out into the world at large, a levity giving way to clarity of a hopeful future. Our eyes are on the world now, wanting to explore new horizons: seeking meaning and understanding, searching for Universal truths through spirituality, religion, higher education, teaching and long distance exploration. Our attention turns to the experience of knowing ‘who we are’ in the Collective and how our beliefs, hopes, faith and future aspirations are the pressing issues under construction and up for review.
Note: Saturn will retrograde back into Scorpio to 28 degrees from mid June 2015 to mid September 2015. This will be a time of review to look at any lingering emotional issues left un-attended to.
