Our minds have a tendency to tell ourselves all sorts of negative things. This negative mind-chatter is rooted in things we’ve been told by authority figures such as parents and teachers. Statements such as “You are an embarrassment” or “You talk too much” can lodge deeply into our subconscious when we hear them at a young age. And negative feedback from others as an adult can still affect us deeply.
While negative feedback can be constructive to help us grow, it can also create problems if our subconscious mind believes it to be true. When the subconscious mind accepts an idea as truth, we automatically begin to live out that idea. For instance, if a person internalizes the example above “You are an embarassment,” then this person will begin to act in a way that PROVES this statement is true. This negative belief becomes a “block” or “obstacle” in the mind. This can lead to self-destructive behavior such as heavy drinking, or otherwise mal-adaptive behavior such as isolation. And the negative mind-chatter becomes even more persistent.
If negative mind-chatter is dominating your views about yourself, it’s decision time. Are you going to stay trapped in the current mode? Or are you going to make a change for the better? Hopefully your answer is the latter!
The best way to overcome negative blocks and obstacles in our subconscious mind is to remove them. To literally dis-lodge the block or obstacle from the mind. But how? There are many processes designed to remove these blocks or obstacles from the subconscious, such as hypnotherapy, talk therapy, neuro-linguistic programming, and energy healing such as reiki or acupuncture.
Each of these therapeutic processes are effective in different ways. And everyone is unique in terms of which modality works best for them. But the two most important keys to success in any therapeutic process are 1) to have a good connection with your practitioner, and 2) to actively peruse your best and most balanced life.
Both of these keys above are tricky…because they take commitment from you! No one else can do it for you. The fact is there is no magic pill that will remove a block or dissipate an obstacle from the subconscious mind. It takes commitment to interview practitioners until you find the right fit for you. It takes commitment to do your research and develop a comprehensive wellness plan for yourself. And it takes commitment for the rest of your life to act on that wellness plan daily. But you know what? YOU are worth it! And when you feel your best, the work you’ve put in doesn’t even feel like work anymore.
Think of the world as a giant puzzle, and you are the last missing piece to complete it. There is only one YOU! Are you taking ownership of yourself and your right to live your best life? And your opportunity to contribute to this giant puzzle-world? Today is a new day and a new chance to become our full potential. Test out this mantra and see where it takes you: “My life is getting better and more balanced every day.”
