The largest luminary in our solar system is the Sun or Sol- the fire, sustaining and supporting all life on Earth with its’ radiant light and heat. Symbolically the Sun illuminates our way, bringing consciousness to our sense of self, in contrast to the dark unconscious of the night which the Moons’ reflective light rules. This is the realm of self-discovery: breaking away from the familiar and known (past), venturing into the unknown to mold a new conscious Ego-Identity (reality), and maturing into a self-responsible Individual loyal to one’s own values and visions.
The Sun archetypes in Psychological Astrology are typically represented by the masculine aspects of the self; the Father, the King, the Spirit inherent in all of us. While the Moon is the realm of nurturing (womb) from Mother, the Father builds the home/foundation (second womb). From this new place of safety one may begin to leave the instinctual clinging to the security of comforting arms and explore new places out in the world. This adventure supports the undeveloped places within the self to learn to stand alone, lean into self-sufficiency, uncover a sense of worthiness/place in the world, and gain self-esteem and true independence.
While the domain of the archetypal Moon/Mother is our past conditioning and the story that we are defined by, the Sun/Father is the vision of our future and what is yet to be known. We can stay enslaved to familial dependency and attachment (fate) or propel ourselves out in to an unknown world and create our rightful life (destiny). Choice, commitment, effort, determination and courage are required to travel this steep and arduous road. No maps exist for this quest, the Hero’s Call to Adventure; yet to fulfill our life’s purpose, to individuate and bring our gifts forth, we must stay the course and grow, mature, differentiate, exude a centered sense of Being.
This place of centered Being-ness becomes integrated over time and allows us to follow our creative impulse (bliss), which adds fuel to the inner fire as we design and live the life we seek. It reveals to us our inherent strength, and propels us to walk the road less traveled, to not forsake our Self or what we sincerely value, to be the architect of our life. Internally we become our own Benevolent Father; connected to Source using a guiding hand to serve and inspire with the innate wisdom of the king who serves and protects for the good of all.
