A Day Without Laughter is a Day Wasted… Charlie Chaplin
Life is so full of chatter from electronics that consume our world with texting, cellphones, You Tube, Facebook, iPad, iPod, IPhone, laptop computer, video games, television and radio. Every day is filled with endless things to do from the time we get up until the time we go to sleep. When do you shut it off? When do you pause to breathe and relax?
I remember flying on a popular airlines and they announcing to everyone to turn off your cellphone. That was back in the day. In our most current times, you ride on the same popular airlines and they announce please turn off, your cellphone, iPad, iPhone, iPod, laptop, video game…they went on and on down the list and named all devices. It made me laugh.
Our distraction and worries keep us from taking time out. We are distracted with bills to pay, work to do, and places we must go. Most of our distractions are what cause our worries. We are worried about how we are going to pay our bills, not enough money. We are worried about our job, either not having one or trying to hold on to the one we have. We worry about our family, home and so much more. The distraction and worries causes stress and anxiety. We feel it in our body.
The American Institute of stress reports that between 75 to 90% of visits to doctors are related to stress 60 to 80% of accidents on the job are related to stress and 40% of staff turnover is due to stress at work.
My stress came about when the economy tanked and my husband and I struggled to keep our home, lost our cars, no job, couldn’t pay electricity, no medical and was feeling stressed caused me to have high blood pressure.
Psalm 39:6 We are merely moving shadows; and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth not knowing who will spend it.
I know who spent it…Walmart, Target. My life was out of control. When I had money I spent it at Target, and Walmart, they helped me spend my money. That is when I knew I had to stop and RELAX, REJUVENATE AND RECHARGE. I call it; RELAX WITH SCENTS, REJUVENATE WITH SOUND AND RECHARGE IN YOUR SPECIAL PLACE. This is what worked for me. This is something you can practice at home and at work. I call it the Scents Sounds Special Places Sessions. Scents Sounds Special Place uses essential oils, music and meditation. Essential oils have been around since the beginning of time. It has been used in the Chinese culture over 4,000 years ago. There is a story that says Cleopatra use to spray Rose oil on her sails when she was going to see Marc Anthony. This is where the Shakespeare quote is from “the ships sails were love sick”. Music plays an important part also because it can change our mood. You want to choose music that helps you relax. Meditation means to focus, think and contemplate. You want to end your session with a positive affirmation. Something that you can say to yourself for the rest of the day that will uplift you, encourage and remind you to have a great day and laugh a little. Meditate on that positive word.
Proverbs 17:22 says: A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones”.
