When I first heard this month’s topic of Clean Air, I immediately thought of clarity, freshness, renewal of life and my attention instantly turned inward as the thought of Soul came forward. Not to be mistaken, I love clear air and all that it brings to us but as we seek nurturing for the body, we must also include the spirit, mind, and emotions if healthy balance is our objective.
For me, the Soul always rests in perfection as its natural state but for clarity and understanding of our soul, we need awareness and the unifying connection of harmonious relationship between the mind, body and spirit. We all know the discontent that comes from a lack of congruence between mind and heart although often times it is only a vague sense of suffering in varying intensity equal in degree to the amount of separation between the longings of our spirit and musings of our mind. So in this brief discourse, it is that relationship I would like to address.
I believe the pursuit of complete authenticity and consciousness is a lifelong journey, perhaps it is even the purpose of life. It can seem like a very daunting task indeed, making it easy to turn away from but in actuality we are actively engaged in that journey whether we know it or not. It is part of every decision we make, every aspect of our discontent and I believe it is usually at the core of disease. With that in mind, it seems to me the only wise course of action is to turn our attention inward and consciously set about the work of discovering who we really are so we can live congruently and in service to the intent of our soul, fulfilling our purpose in this lifetime on Earth. This may not always bring us happiness in the moment but it will bring us a sense of contentment, of peace.
We don’t have to look far to find any number of teachings, books, programs, practices, etc. on this subject, some good, some not. There are many tools, many languages claiming to have the key to this essential wisdom but it is my opinion wisdom is universal and belongs to all of us, is in fact in us as our birthright just waiting to be uncovered and embraced…but how do we do that?
I consider Intention and Attention as our two creative forces so my recommendation is to invoke those energies in everything we wish to accomplish, pay attention, become the student of the self and settle in to watch your wisdom unfold before you; you may also wish to take notes in a favorite journal. Of course, having a wise and trusted guide and some proven concepts or tools to work with can greatly facilitate the process but it is the internal work that matters. Since there are almost unlimited options for supporting your life’s journey of discovery, I would also suggest cultivating and relying on your own intuition as your benchmark for truth and usefulness. If I or anyone else suggests something that resonates with you, take it as your own but if it does not, don’t try to force it because it is either not true or not time for your to embrace it, and simply move along without further ado.
